Collection One : Redemption
"For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."
- Colossians 1:13-14
This passage is amazing to me. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we have redemption and the forgiveness of our sins, once and for all!
I don't know about you, but when I think back on who I used to be, and hear the heart-warming testimonies of other believers, I see the mighty hand of God bridging the gap.
I see his immense passion and burning love for us. I see His fast grip and matchless power, uprooting us from the wide path of destruction.
He has pulled us out of a life of sin and saved us from eternity in the fiery pit. The glory belongs to Him, for we are truly saved by His grace alone! (Ephesians 2:8)
You may think to yourself, "What moved God to do such a great thing for us?"
Let's rewind all the way to the beginning:
When the fall of man took place, we all inherited a sinful nature - we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
From then onwards, mankind has never been able to fulfill the law, and doing this perfectly was the only way to be declared righteous before God. So, sacrifices were continually made as temporary atonement for sin. But they were never sufficient enough for one to attain salvation (Hebrews 10:1-18) - The people were not permanently cleansed from their sins.
That is, until God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. The Lamb of God.
In His loving-kindness, God sent His sinless Son into the earth to be punished on our behalf. By doing this, The Father showed Himself as The Just Judge as well as The Merciful Way-Maker.

And now, because we have put our faith in Jesus Christ, we are clothed in His righteousness. Just as Romans 3:21 says: "But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify."
Hallelujah! Not only have we been redeemed, but we have been declared righteous and made co-heirs with Christ!
So, why did God do this for us? Because of His great love for us! (Ephesians 2:4)
I pray that you would grasp this truth daily, knowing that you were bought at a price and you are so valuable in the sight of the Lord. May you walk in the freedom that Christ purchased for you and may you continue to glorify Jesus for His uncomparable act of love.
Amen.
